The Green Idea
The project:
-Install green bins at Abbey Park-Purchasing green bin liners-Making resources avaliable to increase the efficiency of green bins (i.e. paper-based plates, cups, straws, wrapping at school events)
How we'll make it happen:
-Eco-Team and Environmental Council will work with staff to install green bins in Abbey Park and maintain them throughout the school year-Promoting the proper use of green bins within our school by educational workshops as well as media (announcements, posters)-Green bins will be placed in cafeteria, servery, foods rooms, science rooms, music room, woodshop, and staff rooms (including washrooms and department offices)
How it will positively impact the environment:
Green Bins at Abbey Park will signifcantly help divert our waste from landfills. This will increase the sustainability our school, and contribute to effective waste management within Halton. Moreover, the program will make environmentally friendly practises a lifelong habit for students.
How we'll measure its success:
We will measure the effectiveness of green bin waste diversion by comparing the amount of garbage before their implementation and after. This will most likely be a qualitative analysis.
Who's participating :
-Eco-Team and Environmental Council-Custodial staff-To raise awareness: Eagles TV (announcements), the Quill (student magazine), Parent Council (newsletters and parent outreach)-Teachers and office staff will need to support the project in order to make it a success in classrooms and offices-Students who participate
