The Green Idea
The project:
Create an outdoor education classroom.A learning semi-circle of rock benches for students within an already existing wooded area of the schoolyard. To bring learning outside in a natural environment.
How we'll make it happen:
1.Plan with teachers, student council and Green/Ecoschool Team, and parents.2.Use school site plan for location/drawing of plan.3.Use Ecoschool/Environmental board consultant for advice and assistance.4.Source and price large sitting stones with assistance of parents and community.5.Fundraise through grants, community and school funds.6.Gain advice and assistance from community business partners and parents.7.Take steps to delegate and implement plan.
How it will positively impact the environment:
Make better use of wooded area of schoolyard for students. Mulch an area of forest.Encourage natural growth of plants in unmulched areas of forest.Create a pleasing, quiet sitting for students and community to enjoy wildlife.
How we'll measure its success:
Ecoschool greening project goal for school year 2009-10.Area of woods will be used as classroom and provide a quiet, pleasing setting for students and community during after hours.Mulched area of woods provide natural pathways and unmulched areas provide natural growth of native plants. All classes can use in all seasons for environmental learning.
Who's participating :
Whole school, Eco/Green Team of students, administrator, teachers, caretaker, parent volunteers and possible businesses for delivery and placement of rocks.
